Tech Plan Question 2
What kind of staff development plan/expectations/training etc will get us where we want to be?
I think that tech mentoring is the way to go with staff development, staff support and training. Several years ago, Lori Bresnahan asked me to work with her. We called each other tech buddies. We sometimes shared email questions, met face to face as needed and exchanged handwritten notes. It was whatever fit the situation.
I need mentoring and support too - as Deb knows all too well and so I would want some mentoring too. There are different levels of mentoring and different people who can support the staff. I think we each feel comfortable with different people and we each learn in different ways. Rather than looking at taking baby steps and worrying about people flipping out, I think we have to approach staff development as an example of differentiated instruction.
Setting up regular meetings often adds more stress to our lives. Perhaps by allowing staff members to identify people they would like as a tech partner and then letting those people determine how the support will be given. Pieces of technology can be introduced as the need arises. Even for communicating, new uses for technology could be introduced.
Sorry this is long - again - once I start, I just keep rambling on.....
