Tech Plan Question 1- The Vision
What is your vision for technology at DCS over the next 3 years. Don't get hung up with finding the time for a novel, let's just brainstorm.
I want to see a real media literacy imbedded in the curriculum documents and implemented. Interestingly this is part of the new state standards so we need to do this for a number of reasons. There are 21st Century Skills documents called ICT Literacy Maps that flesh out how this should look by 4th and 8th grades in Science, Math, Literacy and Geography. Check them out on the 21st Century Skills link on the front page of the blog.
I agree with you Debbie. I would like to see more of our school information posted through the school website. At one time, I tried to maintain a classroom website but found it difficult in those early days. I now enjoy using the HomeworkNow site although I still have issues with keeping it up to date. I was doing quite well until the spring. I post my classroom news on the site and sometimes, it was posted before the paper copy went home.
One thing that I have enjoyed about my web presence through the school site is that I have had some wonderful emails from people who have visited the site. Several former students have contacted me and filled me in on their lives.I even was contacted by a former student who had moved away and we arranged to meet during a vacation. Parents also use the email link to contact me with questions and comments about things in class.
I have just updated my site with info for the new batch of incoming kindergarten students.
I'd be glad to give any assistance to anyone about the HWNOW. Once a routine is established, everything else is downhill.
Ardy, you could use HWNOW easily and it would also be a great place to put info about biography projects. You could post links for the parents to go to that would help the kids. I like thinking out of the box with the homework site because we don't need it for assignments in kindergarten so we have to go out of the box to make it useful.
